30 Days to Desire

The art of knowing what you want. The science of asking for it. The joy of receiving.

Do you know what you want?

Desire is a skill, and like any real skill, it deepens with practice and grows quiet when it's ignored. Most of us learned somewhere along the way to want carefully — to keep our wanting small and private, to say yes when we meant something else, to tend to everyone around us with such thoroughness that our own wanting got tucked away and forgotten.

30 Days to Desire is a month of bringing it back.

The question at the center of this challenge is simple and surprisingly rich: what do you actually want? You get to choose the area of your life to focus on. Maybe you want to feel more desire with a lover, or with yourself, or with the texture of your daily life. Maybe you want to reconnect with your own body, or start asking for things you've quietly wanted for years, or simply remember what it feels like to want something and reach toward it without hesitation.

Whatever calls to you, that's where we go.

This challenge is for you if:

You want a life that feels more alive. You want to wake up in the morning and feel a pull towards your day rather than having to push or bribe yourself to get out of bed. You want to stop feeling like you're living a dress rehearsal and wondering when your real life is going to begin. Maybe you want to juice up a relationship and find passion with a partner? Then this challenge is for you.

What if you've been going through the motions and you know it? You have things you want that you've never quite given yourself permission to ask for. You used to feel more alive than you do now and you're curious about what happened to that. You're ready to spend a month in real conversation with your own wanting. This Challenge is for you.

You don't need to be in a relationship. You don't need to have any of this figured out. Curiosity is the only requirement.

Why do I care about desire?

I'm building this challenge because I'm in it too. This isn't something I've mastered and am now teaching from a distance. Desire is something I practice — daily, imperfectly, with real stakes.

I know what it's like to lose touch with what you want. I know what it's like to be so good at taking care of everyone else that your own wanting gets quiet and strange and hard to find.

I also know what it's like when it comes back. When you remember that you're allowed to want things. When you start asking for them. When your life starts to reorganize around what actually matters to you.

That's what this month is for. I'd love to do it with you.

What is Desire to you?

Does desire feel elusive or solid? Trustworthy or dangerous? Like a blessing or a curse? What if desire is not a feeling you either have or don't? What if knowing what you want is something you can practice, a skill that grows when you give it real attention?

Most of us have gotten very good at not wanting. Or at wanting quietly, privately, without asking. We say yes when we mean something else. We go through the motions. We forget what it felt like to want something and reach toward it without apologizing.

I think it's valuable to ask: what do you actually want?

Not what you're supposed to want. Not what would make everyone comfortable. What do you actually want — in your relationships, your body, your life
